“Pharaoh” is a Greek word mentioned in the Old Testament. Pharaohs were not only males, but female, too. Whether they were male or female they were called a king.The pharaoh I chose was Pharaoh Raneb. He was pharaoh during the 2nd Dynasty of Egypt. Pharaoh Raneb was known to serve 39 years as pharaoh by Manetho, but other scholars think he served for only 10 years. They say that Raneb is somewhat related to Hotepsekemwy, but it can not be proved true.
The 2nd Dynasty lasted from the years 2980-2868BC under the ruler, Pharaoh Raneb. During the 2nd Dynasty, there were problems between Horus and Seth. These problems were solved by a person named Khasekhem. Raneb was the pharaoh who introduced the worship of the Mendes goat, the Mnevis bull, and the Apis bull. These were sacred animals.
People believe that Raneb’s birth name was either Kakaw or Kakay. Raneb means “The Son of Ra”. The name “Raneb” translates into “Ra is the Lord”. He was the 1st pharaoh to have “Ra” in his name.
Pharaoh Raneb’s death is a mystery, but we do know he had to be buried in either Abydos or Saqqara. Nynetjer was the pharaoh that came after Raneb. Today the hieroglyph for Raneb’s name is hung in the Museum of Art in New York City. Go and visit!
